Last night as I was about to shut down my electronics, including the computer,
I encountered a huge game file on a fairly reliable Amiga board. So, for 45
minutes, I downloaded. Then it was necessary to move it into RAM to
de-compress it. There were then a few "read me" and some game instructions
to read. Over an hour had passed.

It was time to check out the game! I clicked the icon and all hell broke
loose! It crashed everything. Not only did it crash but it was really
spectacular...screen flashing, there were screams and crash sounds,
the computer was chugging and gronking, the "ON" red light was blinking,
and it woke the dog and he started barking his fool head off...which
scattered the cats in all directions and woke my wife. Since all
lights were out and all that could be seen was the flashing computer screen,
it scared hell out of her and she started screaming "FIRE!".

After I was able to warm boot... which was all I could think of doing, I
discovered that this whole "spectacular" had left me with a virus as well as a
a totally shot set of nerves, a crazed dog, hidden paranoic cats and a
pissed-off wife. The virus was a simple one to get rid of with a "cold
boot" so no damage was done. I can't say the same for the rest of my life!

I went to bed and pulled the covers over my head and hid for the night.

This morning, as I turned the computer on, the dog started barking at it. I
promptly looked at last nite's disk with an "examine and fix" program
and discovered that the disk was empty and blank...as if it had never
happened. Apparently, it was also a "self destruct" program. I am trying to
remember the program name and the board it was on. If I do, I will pass
the info on to all. Be careful...it is very new, very large and .LHA
compressed. For anyone over 55, have your Nitro-Glycerine tablets handy!
